Global Advertising Strategies Takes Turkey to Times Square and wins the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office national exposure with bonus media placements and dramatic displays on Broadway digital billboards.
Global Advertising Strategies is taking Turkish Tourism to Times Square for the second phase of its "Unlimited Turkey” campaign. June will feature dueling, month-long video displays on the seven-screen Reuters Sign at 3 Times Square, and on the seven-story NASDAQ Sign at neighboring 4 Times Square.
It will be the Mediterranean country’s first appearance on the two massive digital billboards in the heart of the city. "Turkey is so diverse and visually appealing that the bigger the screen, the better,” says Hasan Zongur, Director of Turkish Culture and Tourism in New York. He calls Times Square "a natural fit for our New York display.”
The digital billboards will feature powerfully vivid scenes of Turkey, inviting consumers to engage with the culture visually, and presenting an enchanting tourist destination with which many Americans are not yet familiar.
"The videos showcase the diversity and quality of tourism experiences in Turkey,” says Zongur.
The ads aim to entice Americans to explore all the country has to offer, from spectacular natural wonders and historic ruins to upscale attractions in Istanbul, named the 2010 European Capital of Culture for its eclectic blend of tradition and modernity.
Appearing over 350 times per day throughout June, the ads will also direct onlookers to www.goturkey.com. Given the generous returns for which video advertising has come to be known, Global expects a high conversion rate.
Turkey’s Times Square debut is only part of a massive and highly strategic North American campaign launched by Global Advertising and the OYKU Agency on April 1, aimed at introducing Turkey as an incredibly rich yet affordable tourist destination. As confirmed by the latest Harris poll, vacationers are becoming more and more selective, seeking the best experiences for their money. Global has been helping Turkish Tourism respond by promoting its destinations in bold, brilliant, and creative ways to maximize return in a struggling industry.
Thanks to its extensive industry experience, Global has been able to secure a wide array of bonus placements for Turkish Tourism, from billboards in New York City to editorials in leading trade and consumer magazines, maximizing ROI across an extensive combination of media. Global’s longstanding relationships and the leverage they carry have yielded further prime positioning at great rates. "Unlimited Turkey” has enjoyed placements on leading nationwide television networks during their most popular shows, in nationwide travel trade and consumer media, and in a variety of outdoor executions in key U.S. markets.
Turkey was one of the few European countries to see an increase in American travelers last year compared to 2007, marking it a hot spot to be watched as the industry adapts to the current economy. Turkey’s extensive marketing efforts have yielded many positive results thanks to its competitive deals and the variety of travel experiences offered by its many destinations. Global’s role together with OKYU is to inform the public of how extensive that offer is, and to continue to market Turkey aggressively by building its visibility and brand in the U.S.
About Turkish Tourism
Turkey is a modern nation thriving amidst an outdoor museum, a captivating blend of antiquity and contemporary and of East and West. The cradle of civilization and center of world history today stands as one of the fastest-growing tourism destinations in the world. Turkey was the site of the first human settlement; the seat of the Byzantine, Roman and Ottoman Empires; the birthplace of Homer and the last home of the Virgin Mary, just to name a few. Today Turkey, with its spectacular coastline, majestic mountains, cosmopolitan cities and quaint villages, is one of the world’s most fascinating destinations, and, for American travelers, a wondrous blend of the exotic and the familiar.
